Whether we are living in hard times or not, it is always prudent to strive for lower energy consumption. Both energy conservation and energy efficiency practices comes to mind because both contribute to the cause. Although similar in a lot of ways, these two concepts have their distinct differences in the energy world.

Energy Conservation

Energy conservation refers to behavior that results in the use of less energy. It involves adapting certain adjustments in habits and lifestyle, such as turning the lights off when not in use or when it’s day time, unplugging appliances when not in use, and abstaining from using the air conditioner.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency refers to use of technology that requires less energy to perform the same function. This means that you do not necessarily have to compromise aspects of your lifestyle in order to lower your energy consumption. Using energy-saving light bulbs, smart household appliances, energy monitoring system, and solar energy conductors, such as solar panels are all examples of energy efficiency practices. 

Advantages

Both energy conservation and energy efficiency practices have their advantages.

Energy conservation is something you can put into practice immediately with little to no cost. Energy efficiency on the other hand will require you to invest a certain amount, but pays dividends in the long term. If you have the resources, investing in solar energy equipment like solar panels is a good idea since it helps you spend none or minimal in electricity moving forward because you are practically getting energy from the sun. This way, your comfort and lifestyle need not be compromised. Imagine being able to use your air conditioner at full blast during summer nights without feeling guilty about your electric bill racking up. People conserve energy to gain more control over their electric bill, while lowering their carbon footprint. Two ways to achieve this is by adopting energy conservation and energy efficiency practices that are applicable.
